‘I’d rather die than become a burden to my family’ — Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has said he would prefer to die when his time comes rather than become a burden to his family and loved ones.

Edochie made the remark during a visit to ailing Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Armah in Accra, Ghana, where he spoke about his own health struggles.

The veteran actor disclosed that he is currently finding it difficult to walk and sometimes experiences swelling in parts of his body.

In a video of the emotional visit circulating online, Edochie said he remained hopeful of recovering despite his current condition.

“Sitting down here, I’m not very well myself. Walking is a problem for me now, but I still have hope that I will recover myself.

“Sometimes I get up, and parts of my body are swollen. After some time, it goes down again. Like my hand is swollen now,” he said.

Reflecting on his condition, Edochie said he had been praying that God would take his life when his time came rather than leave him dependent on others.

“I just keep asking God, you are the author of life. Whenever you feel it’s time for me to go, just take me. Don’t let me bother the people who are around me. Just take me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Armah’s wife, Stella Amina, said her husband’s health problems began while he was working in the United States.

According to GhanaWeb, Amina said Armah had high blood pressure without knowing it and later developed elevated cholesterol levels.

Armah, who has reportedly battled the illness for nearly 11 years, is currently undergoing physiotherapy and receiving daily massages as part of his treatment.

Encouraging his colleague, Edochie expressed optimism that Armah would eventually recover.

“It is my belief that you will recover one day,” he said.
