The Principal of Igbobi College, Ven. Joseph Oyewale Adediji, has emphasised the importance of moral discipline as a key complement to academic achievement.
He made the remarks during the school’s Academic and Behavioural Awards ceremony held on May 20, 2026, at the institution in Yaba, Lagos.
Adediji said the event was not only to recognise academic excellence but also to celebrate character, resilience and positive conduct among students.
According to him, true excellence goes beyond academic performance and is best demonstrated when intellectual ability is matched with integrity, empathy, respect and perseverance.
“When we look at academic success, we see the results of hard work and curiosity. But brilliance only tells half the story. The true impact comes when intelligence is paired with strong behavioural values,” he said.
Addressing the award recipients, the principal praised their commitment to discipline, teamwork and support for their peers, noting that their conduct reflected true leadership qualities.
He also acknowledged the role of parents, guardians and teachers in shaping the students, saying their guidance and support laid the foundation for the learners’ achievements.
Adediji urged students to continue developing both character and knowledge, describing character as a “compass” for navigating life’s challenges.
He encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined and respectful in their interactions with others.
The event, attended by staff, students, parents and friends of the school, was aimed at promoting a balance between academic success and moral upbringing.
In a light-hearted moment, the principal also congratulated Arsenal Football Club and its supporters on winning the English Premier League after a 22-year wait.
