President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending four weeks abroad on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos from Paris, France, aboard Nigerian Air Force One at about 6:22pm on Tuesday.
The aircraft taxied into the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where the President was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior government officials.
Speaking with journalists after his arrival, Tinubu said he enjoyed his vacation.
Asked about concerns over his health, the President said he was fit and ready to resume work.
“Ready to kick, ready to work. There’s nothing wrong with my health. Rumours will always emanate from politics. But the fact remains, I’m here—healthy, sound and ready to go,” he said.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Tinubu had departed Paris and was expected to arrive in Lagos later in the evening.
The President travelled to Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
Tinubu is also expected to attend the premiere of a movie celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, on Thursday, October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.
According to the Presidency, the President will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending one week in London before travelling to Paris.
While in France, he attended a private dinner with President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group.
The group has interests in media and digital businesses, including Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
Tinubu also met with businessman and Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola, on Monday.
Last week, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The project is expected to attract $7bn in investment from DP World, a global ports and logistics company.
The Presidency said Tinubu would return to Abuja after completing his political engagements in Lagos.
