inDrive pledges low commissions, better welfare for drivers

Ride-hailing platform inDrive has reaffirmed that it charges the lowest commission in Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry, saying its reduced service fees are designed to help drivers retain more of their earnings amid economic pressures.

The company made the statement on Monday amid ongoing concerns over ride-hailing fares, commission charges and drivers’ welfare in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its Country Director, Timothy Oladimeji, inDrive said its support for drivers goes beyond low commissions to include initiatives aimed at improving earnings, healthcare access, insurance and safety.

The company said its Comfort service module allows drivers with eligible vehicles manufactured from 2008 onwards to earn 30 per cent more on qualifying trips.

It added that partnerships with Heala and MyCover were aimed at improving drivers’ access to healthcare and insurance-related services.

According to inDrive, the initiatives form part of its efforts to address drivers’ broader welfare needs and create better earning opportunities on the platform.

The company also highlighted its third Safety Summit, recently held in Abuja, which brought together drivers, passengers, couriers, merchants, regulators and other stakeholders to discuss safety, accountability and ways to build trust in the ride-hailing sector.

It said sustained engagement with drivers and other stakeholders was essential to improving services and developing solutions that reflect the realities of both drivers and passengers.

“We will continue to maintain a low service fee, develop initiatives that support driver earnings and welfare, and invest in safety and service improvements,” the statement said.

The company added that its goal was to create more opportunities for drivers while providing passengers with accessible and reliable transportation options.
