Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.
According to the results announced by the Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Adenike Oladeji, Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in 19 out of the 20 Local Government Areas, while his challenger, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) won in only Amuwo-Odofin LGA.

Announcing the election results in the early hours of Monday, Prof. Oladiji, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour who scored 312,329 votes, while Olajide Adeniran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) occupied the third position with 62,449 votes.
“I hereby declare that Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, having satisfied the requirements of the law by having 25 per cent of the total of the LGAs of the states and also having the highest number of votes cast and meeting the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner,” the Returning Officer declared.
