The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive materials to the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, disclosed this on Thursday at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Awka, where the distribution took place.

Agwu said the materials were inspected by the police and other stakeholders and confirmed to be complete and intact.

“We have inspected the sensitive materials with the Commissioner of Police and other stakeholders.

“They are all intact, and distribution to the 21 LGAs has commenced,” she said.

She listed the materials to include over 2.8 million ballot papers, 5,720 booklets of Form EC8A, and several other result forms for replacements and continuations.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Abayomi Shogunle, who also supervised the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements.

He announced that about 55,000 security personnel from various agencies would be deployed across the state, with at least three officers assigned to each polling unit.

Shogunle assured residents of adequate security and urged them to come out in large numbers to vote, emphasizing that all measures had been put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
