The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 2.5 million Nigerians have completed their online pre-registration for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began on August 18.

National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday after the commission’s regular meeting.

According to him, as of the end of the second week, 1,218,482 of the registrants (48.12%) are male, while 1,313,580 (51.88%) are female.

A majority of 1,602,484 (63.29%) fall within the 18–34 age bracket, with students accounting for 647,528 (25.57%) of the total.

Olumekun added that 72,274 Nigerians have so far taken part in the in-person registration, which commenced on August 25.

Within five days, 35,622 (49.29%) were male and 36,652 (50.71%) were female.

He commended citizens for their enthusiastic response and acknowledged the role of civic organisations in mobilising participation.
