The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has relocated Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centres for four local government areas of Borno State to Maiduguri due to security concerns.
State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Ahmad, announced the move on Thursday while unveiling plans for the 2025–2026 CVR exercise in Maiduguri.
The affected LGAs are Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte.
Ahmad said Abadam’s registration will now take place at Baga Road, Guzamala’s at the Fire Service Department in 1,000 Housing Estate, Kala-Balge’s at Goni Kachalari Primary School, and Marte’s at Kachamai—all within Maiduguri metropolis.
The exercise will run in three phases from August 18, 2025, to August 30, 2026. Online pre-registration will open on August 18, while in-person registration begins on August 25.
Both will continue side by side for the duration of the programme.
Prospective voters can register online via www.cvr.inec.gov.ng or www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, book an appointment, and complete their registration at any INEC state or local government office. Physical registration will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding public holidays.
Ahmad noted that INEC has made special arrangements to assist persons with disabilities.
Services will include registration for first-time voters aged 18 and above, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), transfer of voter registration to new polling units, collection of unclaimed PVCs from past exercises, and updating details for voters whose PVCs failed verification during the last elections.
He urged residents, especially those from the affected LGAs, to seize the opportunity to get registered ahead of future polls.
