The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the governorship election in Osun State from Saturday, August 8, 2026 to Saturday, August 15, 2026 as part of adjustments to its electoral timetable.
The commission said the change forms part of a broader revision of activities for the 2027 general election to ensure compliance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
INEC noted that some preparatory activities for the governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti State had already been completed, while the remaining processes would proceed under the updated schedule.
The electoral body said the revised timetable has been published and is available on its official platforms for political parties and stakeholders.
It stressed that campaigns must end 24 hours before election day and advised political parties to strictly adhere to the approved timelines.
INEC called on stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organisations and voters, to work collectively to ensure peaceful, credible and inclusive polls that reflect the will of Nigerians.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on February 26, 2026.
