The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.759bn for the purchase of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to support security agencies in tackling banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
The approval was made at the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir.
In a statement on Thursday, the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, said the motorcycles would improve the mobility of security personnel, particularly in remote and difficult-to-access communities.
He said the motorcycles would complement the 62 armoured vehicles recently procured by the state government at a cost of N27bn and distributed to security agencies.
According to Bawa, the council considered improved logistics essential to strengthening security operations across the state.
“The procurement of the 1,000 motorcycles is aimed at complementing the recently procured armoured vehicles and enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies across the state,” he quoted the council as saying.
Beyond security, the council approved several projects targeting education, healthcare, skills development and water supply.
It approved N723.17m for the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo, N498.99m for the rehabilitation of A.A. Raji Special School and N489.32m for the renovation of Phase I of the College of Nursing Sciences.
Another N229.36m was approved for the renovation of male and female hostels at the College of Basic and Remedial Studies, while N174.64m was allocated for renovating staff quarters and upgrading the perimeter fence at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Wurno.
For healthcare infrastructure, the council approved N133.67m for the construction of a perimeter fence at Wamakko Primary Health Centre.
It also approved N93.88m for vocational training equipment for 46 women’s vocational centres across the state’s 23 local government areas.
Similarly, N90.21m was approved for PVC pipes and plumbing fittings to maintain 142 semi-urban water supply schemes across Sokoto.
Bawa said the approvals reflected the government’s focus on strengthening security while addressing critical infrastructure and human development needs.
“The government remains committed to implementing projects and programmes that will directly impact the lives of the people and contribute to the overall development of Sokoto State,” he said.

He added that the meeting, which lasted about two hours, considered issues relating to the security and socio-economic development of the state.
