Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced an immediate ban on the sale of petrol across Bama Local Government Area, including the towns of Bama and Banki, as part of intensified efforts to tackle terrorism.
The decision follows consultations with security agencies and is part of a broader strategy to enhance counter-insurgency operations in the region, which borders Cameroon and the Republic of Chad.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum emphasized the urgent need for the measure, citing its importance in addressing ongoing security threats.
“I have ordered a total ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other areas within Bama LGA with immediate effect,” the governor declared.
He issued a stern warning to violators, stating that anyone caught flouting the directive would be prosecuted without exception.
“There will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this directive. Security operatives have been instructed to take firm action against any filling station or individual that disobeys this order,” Zulum stressed.
Reaffirming his administration’s resolve to restore peace, the governor called on residents to support security efforts and cooperate with authorities in the fight against insurgency.
