A Nigerian wedding has set social media abuzz after guests were gifted iPads as souvenirs, sparking mixed reactions over the lavish gesture.
A viral clip shows a woman in rich Yoruba attire distributing the devices around tables, confirming what had already become hot gossip online.
While some doubted the authenticity of the gadgets, with one user joking, “Fake iPad I guess,” others suspected they were low-cost imports.
A few defended the move, pointing to the pricey aso ebi (party attire) that often funds such souvenirs.
“One user explained, “You pay high for aso ebi, they use part of the money to buy gifts for you.”
Many, however, admired the spectacle, with some declaring Yoruba parties unbeatable when it comes to style and grandeur.
“No tribe comes close when it comes to owambe,” one commenter wrote, while another teased, “This is why nobody misses Yoruba parties—you can go home with a full startup package.”
Not everyone was impressed.
Critics dismissed the act as wasteful, arguing that distributing iPads to partygoers—many of whom can already afford them—misses the point.
Others warned of the financial pressures such competitive extravagance places on families.
Still, for many Nigerians, the event was yet another reminder of why Yoruba weddings continue to dominate conversations both offline and online.
