Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province, identified as Abou Ameer, during a failed attack on a military formation in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Security sources said the commander, who was recently appointed as the group’s Ameer (Qaid) in Pulka, led the insurgents in the attempted infiltration.
His appointment followed the earlier killing of his predecessor, Modu Kunduli, in Bama area of Borno State.
The terrorists reportedly came under intense and coordinated fire from troops, forcing them to retreat after suffering heavy losses.
Sources further disclosed that several other senior commanders, including Abu Ali Jango, Jundulla, and Saleh Madagali, sustained gunshot injuries during the clash.
Troops also recovered weapons and intelligence materials from the scene, highlighting sustained military pressure on insurgent operations in the North-East.
