The Industrial Training Fund has commissioned a 47,600-litre fuel station in Jos, Plateau State, as part of measures to improve staff welfare and support the agency’s operations.
The facility, located on a 2,150-square-metre site previously used as a fuel dump, was inaugurated on Monday by the ITF Director-General, Dr Afiz Ogun.
Ogun said the project was conceived after he assumed office in 2023 and discovered that the property was largely abandoned and underutilised.
He said the station would allow ITF employees to purchase fuel using their staff identity cards, with the cost deducted gradually from their salaries.
“When I came in, I saw this place like a small forest, and I learnt it was a fuel dump for ITF vehicles. I decided we needed more,” Ogun said.
He described the facility as part of his administration’s broader welfare programme, noting that other projects were also being delivered across the organisation.
The Director of Estate Management, Dauda Msheliza, said the station was part of the DG’s three-pronged focus on skills development, automation of ITF operations and improved staff welfare.
He said the project was awarded on May 16, 2025, and completed in March 2026 after the contractor commenced work immediately.
According to Msheliza, the station has the capacity to dispense 47,600 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, while infrastructure has also been provided for Compressed Natural Gas, although the CNG component is yet to be installed.
He said the project had transformed an abandoned facility into an operational asset capable of improving the efficiency of the ITF workforce.
Ogun said the commissioning was one of several projects being undertaken by the agency, including the construction of about 24 housing units and the planned establishment of a digital fabrication centre in Ogbomoso.
He also announced plans for specialised skills centres focusing on areas including ceramics, leather, metal works and offshore fabrication in different parts of the country.
The DG said the ITF was also working to promote dual education by combining technical training with entrepreneurship, ethics, patriotism, safety and project management.
According to him, the initiative is intended to produce skilled workers capable of meeting the demands of the modern economy.
Ogun urged ITF workers to remain focused on their duties and disregard rumours capable of distracting them from the agency’s programmes.
He said the administration would continue to prioritise staff welfare while expanding the ITF’s training and skills development programmes nationwide.
