The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has applauded Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for reinstating the State Ministry of Information.
The minister described the move as timely and strategic, adding that the ministry would serve as a frontline institution in combating fake news and divisive rhetoric, thereby enhancing public trust through timely and culturally relevant communication.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Protocol in the ministry, Dr Suleiman Haruna, on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Idris noted that the decision, coming a decade after the ministry’s dissolution, aligns with the resolutions of the National Council on Information (NCI) meeting held in December 2024.
It would be recalled that states were urged to revitalise or establish information ministries to strengthen governance and public engagement.
“I commend the Kaduna State Government for taking this bold step, which reinforces our collective commitment to transparent governance and citizen-centred communication,” Idris stated.

He noted that the re-establishment of the ministry reflects Kaduna’s alignment with the federal government’s drive towards a unified and responsive information ecosystem.
This system, he said, encourages collaboration between federal and state structures to counter misinformation and promote national cohesion.
The minister stated that the revival of the ministry will boost synergy between federal and state information agencies on key national priorities such as security, health, education, and economic reforms.
“With a fully functional ministry, Kaduna residents will have improved access to verified information on government policies, programmes, and opportunities, fostering inclusivity and participatory governance,” Idris added.
The minister urged other states to follow Kaduna’s lead, noting that information ministries are essential for closing communication gaps and promoting inclusive development.
