Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The ADC is the coalition-backed party many had speculated Atiku would align with ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former vice president announced his defection to the party via a post on X on Monday.
The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate shared a picture of himself holding the ADC membership card.
“It’s official,” he captioned the post.
The former vice president had, in October 2025, declared that he has no plans to step down for another presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general election.

Atiku, who resigned from the PDP in July 2025, was elected as the vice president on the platform of the party, serving under former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007.
He has also been the PDP’s presidential candidate on two occasions, flying the party’s flag in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Atiku, however, failed to succeed in the two outings for the PDP, losing to Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and the incumbent President Bola Tinubu in 2023.
