The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has pushed forward the deadline for 2025 admissions into public universities.
In a statement released on Sunday by its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the exam body announced that the new deadline is now Monday, November 17, 2025, instead of the earlier October 31 date.
According to JAMB, the extension became necessary due to “emergent and compelling circumstances.” One major reason was an appeal from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), who cited disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/26 admission process — a situation only resolved on October 28.
Also, the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently accredited 229 new programmes across 37 universities, and admissions into those fresh courses are just kicking off.
“The Board commends the zeal and commitment of public universities so far but wishes to ensure fairness and inclusivity. Hence, this new deadline of November 17, 2025, is final and must be strictly adhered to,” the statement read.
JAMB also reaffirmed its dedication to a smooth, transparent, and credible admission process through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), aligning with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to widen access to tertiary education.
This marks the second adjustment this year. Earlier, on September 18, 2025, JAMB extended the deadline for universities to submit Post-UTME scores of underage candidates to October 30, after some schools failed to meet the initial timeline.
The exam board says these extensions are meant to keep the academic calendar on track while ensuring no qualified student is left out.
