The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has terminated the appointment of a staff member accused of extorting unsuspecting candidates.
The board disclosed this in its release bulletin on Monday, saying the action was part of efforts to strengthen the integrity of the admission and examination processes.
JAMB said the sanction demonstrated that its crackdown on fraud was not limited to individuals outside the organisation.
According to the board, staff members who abuse their positions or exploit candidates would face disciplinary action in line with its established rules.
“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members for extorting unsuspecting candidates, in further demonstration of its renewed commitment to flushing out bad eggs from the system,” the board said.
JAMB warned its workforce against engaging in conduct capable of undermining the board’s operations or taking advantage of candidates and members of the public.
It said its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applied to all employees, regardless of their positions.
“The Board stated that its resolve to sanitise the admission and examination processes is not targeted at external fraudsters alone,” it added.
The board said it would not shield employees who abused the trust placed in them by candidates or members of the public.
It further warned that any staff member found compromising its operations would be sanctioned according to the relevant rules.
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a professional and accountable workforce, stressing that efforts to protect the integrity of its examination and admission processes must also address misconduct within the organisation.
