JAMB warns UTME, DE candidates against errors during profile creation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) against making errors when creating their profiles.

The board warned that seemingly minor mistakes at the profile creation stage, particularly in names and dates of birth, could create complications during registration and the subsequent admission process.

JAMB issued the warning in a new advisory video released under its “JAMB Explained” series and shared on its X handle on Wednesday.

The advisory, directed at new candidates, urged applicants to carefully verify their personal information before creating their profiles.

“Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct,” the board said.

According to JAMB, candidates’ personal information is obtained from their records with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), rather than being generated independently by the examination board.

It therefore warned that errors in names or dates of birth could not simply be corrected by JAMB after registration.

“That means if there’s any error with your name or date of birth, JAMB cannot change it after registration,” the board stated.

JAMB also cautioned candidates against assuming that obtaining an affidavit would automatically result in the correction of their records with the board.

The board advised prospective candidates to ensure that their details, particularly information linked to their National Identification Number (NIN), were accurate before proceeding with profile creation.

It stressed that accurate identity information was essential to maintaining consistent records throughout the examination and admission process.
