Jigawa ACReSAL, SARC sign MoU to strengthen GBV response

The Jigawa Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Dutse to strengthen support for survivors and improve the reporting of gender-based violence (GBV) cases.

The partnership is aimed at establishing a safe, confidential and coordinated system for tracking, reporting and responding to GBV cases across ACReSAL-affected watersheds in Jigawa State.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Jigawa ACReSAL Social and Livelihood Officer, Zainab Baba, reaffirmed the project’s commitment to protecting human dignity and strengthening support systems for vulnerable people.

Baba said the partnership would help ensure that survivors receive timely and appropriate support while improving the handling and reporting of GBV cases within affected communities.

She noted that efforts to build climate resilience must go hand in hand with protecting people, particularly vulnerable groups within communities.

She added that the collaboration would strengthen support for survivors, promote timely responses to reported cases and contribute to creating safer communities across the state.

The partnership is expected to enhance coordination between relevant stakeholders and improve access to appropriate services for survivors of GBV.
