The Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, has returned N301 million in unspent funds from the 2025 Ramadan feeding programme to the state treasury.
The refund was announced during a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi.
The gesture was praised by the council as a rare and commendable act of accountability and transparency in governance.
The state had initially earmarked N4.8 billion for the Ramadan feeding initiative, which aimed at supporting residents during the holy month.
The programme operated through 700 feeding centres across all 27 Local Government Areas, providing meals to over 5,550 people daily for the 29 days of fasting.
Each centre served more than 300 individuals per day, with the initiative also offering support to local farmers and small business owners who supplied food and services.
Commissioner Sankara’s action has been widely applauded as a model of integrity in public office.
