Jigawa destroys over 5,500 cartons of expired noodles

The Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has destroyed 5,520 cartons of expired noodles in Dutse as part of efforts to protect residents and preserve confidence in immunisation campaigns.

The exercise was carried out under the supervision of key stakeholders, including representatives of the WHO, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency, and members of the media.

The disposal operation was jointly coordinated by the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and JISEPA, with technical backing from the WHO.

The noodles had earlier been supplied by the WHO as incentives for participants during the National Immunisation Plus Days campaign, aimed at strengthening turnout for polio and routine vaccinations across the state.

Speaking at the site, State Cold Chain Officer Yusuf Inuwa said the immunisation exercise was initially slated for November 2025 but was shifted to December 2, 2025, following a directive from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

By the rescheduled date, the noodles had reached their “best before” date.

All 5,520 cartons were therefore collected from the 27 local government areas and safely destroyed to prevent possible consumption.

Inuwa explained that distributing expired products could expose people to health dangers, noting that the decision to retrieve and dispose of them was timely and responsible.

According to the state government, the action underscores its commitment to food safety, public health protection, and the continued trust of communities in vaccination programmes nationwide.
