Joshua family decries theft of boxer’s phone at accident scene

Anthony Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, has revealed that some people at the scene of the boxing star’s recent car accident stole the boxer’s phone.

The former world heavyweight champion was involved in a crash in Nigeria that tragically killed two of his friends and team members.

Speaking about the incident, his uncle described how shocking the news was for the family and how difficult it has been coping with what happened.

He said they first learned about the accident from a retired police officer rather than social media.

Joshua had arrived in the country just hours before the crash and was looking forward to spending time with family in Sagamu.

While condemning the poor emergency response at the scene, the uncle criticized bystanders for their behaviour.

He said some people were more interested in recording videos and even taking items from victims than helping.

It was during this chaos that Joshua’s phone was allegedly taken.

The uncle also called for better emergency services, such as more ambulances stationed along major highways to respond swiftly to crashes.

He urged citizens to be more responsible at accident scenes and to immediately contact emergency services when they witness such incidents.

He acknowledged the support from government officials, including the governors of Lagos and Ogun states and President Bola Tinubu, who have been in contact with the family and ensured Joshua received proper medical care.

Though Joshua has been discharged from the hospital after sustaining minor injuries, the loss of his two friends has deeply affected his family during what should have been a festive time.
