Kaduna govt trains public servants for future challenges

The Kaduna State Government has organised a two-day in-house training workshop aimed at repositioning the state’s public service for future challenges.

The event held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 in Kaduna, was spearheaded by the Office of the Head of Service, in collaboration with Bismag International Ventures Ltd.

It brought together civil servants from across various administrative and technical departments.

Speaking at the workshop, the Head of Service, Hajiya Habiba Shekarau, emphasised the crucial role of public servants in governance, policy formulation, and service delivery.

She said that as the state continued to modernise under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, civil servants must adapt to new demands through innovation, technology, and continuous learning.

“With reforms in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security, our civil service must evolve.

“Traditional bureaucratic structures should give way to agile, technology-driven systems to enhance productivity and service delivery,” Shekarau stated.

She highlighted key focus areas, including capacity building, digital transformation, ethical leadership, innovation, and improved welfare.

Shekarau also commended the administration for initiatives such as salary increments, micro-credit revolving loans, and subsidised food programmes aimed at improving civil servants’ well-being.

The Managing Director of Bismag International Ventures Ltd, Garba Bakori, appreciated the Head of Service for organising the workshop and prioritising the welfare of the civil servants.

He stated that the training included interactive sessions and seven key presentations designed to enhance workplace performance.

Dr John Aliyu, in his presentation on ‘The Power of Attitude in the Workplace’, stressed that success in public service depends more on attitude than any other factor.

He urged the civil servants to adopt a positive mindset, embrace change, and maintain a commitment to excellence.

“A positive attitude is contagious and essential for both individual and organizational growth,” Aliyu remarked.

Participants, including Hashim Muktar, Director of Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and Mahmud Mahmud, expressed appreciation for the training.

They pledged to extend the knowledge gained to their colleagues in various ministries.

Another participant, Beatrice Magaji, commended the head of service for initiating the workshop, describing it as a timely intervention for the civil servants striving for excellence in service delivery.

She said that the workshop reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building a professional, efficient, and forward thinking civil service.
