The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked claims of mass defections within its ranks, affirming that its members remain steadfast and loyal to the party’s leadership.
In a communiqué released after an expanded caucus meeting held at the ASAA Pyramid Hotel in Kaduna on Sunday, the party reaffirmed its unity and readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming by-elections.
Signed by the state party chairman, Edward Percy Masha, the communiqué dismissed reports of internal divisions or plans by party leaders to abandon the PDP. Instead, it declared full support for the party’s national leadership, including the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The party also expressed strong backing for proposed alliances or strategic partnerships being considered by the emerging national leadership of the PDP after the upcoming national elective convention. These moves, they said, are aimed at repositioning the party and dislodging the APC at both state and federal levels.
“As a party in Kaduna State, we are united, we are focused, and we have resolved to work harmoniously for the success of PDP candidates in the three constituencies where bye-elections are imminent, as well as in all future contests,” the statement read.
The meeting also emphasized the need to strengthen grassroots structures to counter what it described as the APC’s “woeful governance failures” across the state.
Present at the meeting were serving and former lawmakers, local government party chairmen, youth and women leaders, and stakeholders from all three senatorial zones of the state.
