Kaduna pensioners hail Uba Sani over N4.289bn gratuity payment

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has praised Governor Uba Sani for releasing N4.289 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits and accrued rights of retired civil servants and families of deceased workers, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a letter of appreciation dated April 16, 2026, and signed by State Executive Chairman Aboman Ladan and Secretary Alhassan Balarabe Musa, the union said the gesture “has not only put smiles on the faces of pensioners but has gone a step further in renewing their hope on all other pending entitlements.”

The governor last week approved the disbursement covering 1,637 beneficiaries across state and local government services under two schemes — the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Defined Benefit Scheme.

Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, N3.915 billion will be disbursed to 1,392 pensioners, while 245 beneficiaries under the Defined Benefit Scheme will receive a total of N374 million for gratuities and death benefits.

The union described the release as a timely intervention that had “brought great relief and renewed hope to many members who have waited patiently for years,” adding that bereaved families had particularly felt the impact.

“For numerous bereaved families, Your Excellency’s gesture has erased their burden and restored their faith in government. You are really an Ambassador of Renewed Hope Agenda,” the letter read.

The union, however, reminded the governor of outstanding liabilities, noting that some pensioners — particularly the elderly — were yet to receive their entitlements, while expressing confidence in his willingness to clear all pending obligations.

With the latest release, Governor Uba Sani has paid a cumulative sum of N17.796 billion in pension liabilities since assuming office, benefitting no fewer than 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.
