Kaduna’s 36km Bagoma–Gagumi road to surpass Uba Sani’s previous record — KADRA MD

Governor Uba Sani is poised to surpass his own infrastructure milestone once the 36-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi road project in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area is completed, according to the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Abdullahi Baba Ahmed.

Dr. Baba Ahmed disclosed this during an inspection visit to the project site, describing the governor’s rural infrastructure drive as transformative.

He recalled that the governor had earlier commissioned what was described as the longest road built in Kaduna State in the last two decades — the 35-kilometre Gadan Gayan–Gwaraji–Kujama road — which cuts across Igabi, Kajuru, and Chikun local government areas.

The project also includes a 130-metre bridge over the River Kaduna, providing a crucial link for several rural communities.

Speaking during the weekend inspection of the Bagoma–Gagumi road, Baba Ahmed said the new project would set another record and directly benefit about 66 farming communities in Birnin Gwari once completed.

“The road will connect farmers to markets and improve access to schools and healthcare facilities. It will also open up the area economically and significantly improve the lives of residents,” he said.

He noted that Birnin Gwari is one of Nigeria’s major maize-producing areas, adding that the road would make it easier for farmers to transport their produce and boost agricultural productivity.

According to him, the project forms part of Governor Sani’s broader infrastructure programme aimed at constructing about 1,345 kilometres of roads across 20 local government areas in the state.

He added that the administration has so far initiated 150 projects, with 66 already completed.

The Bagoma–Gagumi road is being executed by CGC Nigeria Limited, a construction firm known for handling large infrastructure projects including roads, bridges and water supply systems.

Although the project is scheduled for completion before the end of the year, the contractor has assured the state government that it may be delivered ahead of schedule.

The Northern Regional Manager of the company, Wang Hongxi, said additional workers had been deployed to accelerate construction.

“We have mobilised more workers and are working around the clock to ensure the project is completed on time,” he said.

Residents of Bagoma and Gagumi communities expressed optimism that the 36-kilometre road would significantly improve transportation and stimulate economic activity in the area.

Alhaji Musa Bagoma, a resident, said the road had been in poor condition for years but was now being transformed into a modern highway that would ease movement and boost local commerce.

Similarly, a trader, Alhaji Dangajere Gagumi, noted that the project would make it easier for farmers and traders to transport their goods to markets and enable children to travel to school more safely.

Another resident, Mallam Ibrahim Mande, said the project demonstrated the state government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of rural communities.
