A Federal High Court in Kano has ruled in favour of the Kano State Censorship Board, dismissing a lawsuit filed by Amart Enterprises, a company owned by Hajiya Aisha Amart.
The company had approached the court seeking to prevent the board from interfering in its film copyright and downloading operations within the state. However, Justice Simon A. Amobeda struck out the case, citing a lack of jurisdiction.
The case stemmed from a prolonged conflict between the two parties regarding regulatory compliance.
The board claimed that Amart Enterprises failed to adhere to an earlier agreement, which led to the legal escalation.
Abba El-mustapha, a senior official of the Censorship Board, stated that several attempts had been made to resolve the issue amicably before the matter reached court.
Reacting to the judgement, he expressed satisfaction and reaffirmed the board’s dedication to fair enforcement of the law.
He also stressed the board’s commitment to protecting the interests of stakeholders in the Kannywood film industry while discouraging non-compliant practices.
