Kano 2027: Ganduje assures Yusuf of victory as gov rejoins APC

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, of victory in the 2027 governorship election, saying the party has agreed to back his second-term bid.

Ganduje gave the assurance on Monday in Kano while welcoming Yusuf back to the APC, describing his return as a major boost for the party in the state.

“You will win your second term in 2027. We have spoken to all aspirants, and they have agreed to support you,” Ganduje said.

Yusuf, who resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last week, officially rejoined the APC on January 26, 2026. He had previously been a member of the APC between 2014 and 2018.

In his resignation letter, Yusuf cited persistent internal crises within the NNPP and the need to protect the overall interests of the people as reasons for his defection.

Ganduje described Yusuf’s return as a “homecoming,” noting that the governor was part of the APC at its formative stage before leaving due to political differences. He also described Yusuf as a progressive whose leadership aligns with the party’s ideology.

He further declared that Yusuf automatically becomes the leader of the APC in Kano State, in line with party tradition that recognises serving governors as state party leaders.

Ganduje assured Yusuf of equal treatment within the party and expressed confidence that both Yusuf and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure victories in the 2027 elections.

Yusuf’s defection has sparked political realignments in Kano, with 22 state lawmakers, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen reportedly defecting alongside him.
