Kano 2027: Gov Yusuf’ll struggle politically without Kwankwaso – Galadima

A senior figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Elder Buba Galadima, has warned that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may struggle politically if he distances himself from his mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Galadima spoke amid ongoing political shifts in Kano, where Governor Yusuf recently resigned from the NNPP and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), along with several lawmakers and local government chairmen.

The NNPP flag was removed from the Kano Government House following the defection.

In comments carried on Trust TV’s Daily Politics programme, Galadima dismissed claims that his alliance with Governor Yusuf had ended, saying Yusuf had not officially broken with Kwankwaso.

He acknowledged that the governor is under pressure to leave Kwankwaso’s political influence, but stressed the long-standing relationship between the two leaders.

Galadima emphasised that it was Kwankwaso’s backing that helped Yusuf become governor and said relying solely on the APC could be politically unstable for him.

“If he stands on borrowed feet, he will fall,” Galadima said, arguing that Yusuf would struggle without Kwankwaso’s support.

He further stated that if Yusuf were to move politically without Kwankwaso, he would not receive support from Kwankwaso’s political base.

The governor’s defection, which saw 21 state assembly members, eight federal lawmakers, and all 44 local government chairmen quit the NNPP with him, marks a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
