The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to formally respond to allegations reportedly made by the United States concerning Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, including claims linking him to terrorism and proposals to freeze his assets and bank accounts.
The motion, presented by Usman Tasiu (NNPP-Kiru), was deliberated during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore on Tuesday in Kano.
While moving the motion, Tasiu described Kwankwaso as a committed public servant whose administration contributed significantly to the welfare of Kano residents. He highlighted the senator’s efforts in promoting peace, improving education, and advancing infrastructure for both Muslim and Christian communities.
Tasiu also noted Kwankwaso’s role as a unifying figure, saying he had mediated conflicts between northern and southern Nigeria while maintaining a consistent stance against terrorism.
Following deliberations, lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion, urging the Kano State Government to take appropriate steps in addressing the allegations.
In addition, the Assembly approved motions requesting the construction of roads across several local government areas, including Tarauni, Madobi, Garun Malam, and Rimin Gado. The proposals were sponsored by various members across party lines.
The House later adjourned plenary until Monday, March 2, 2026, after a motion moved by the Majority Leader.
