Kano communities cry out over collapsing road ahead of rainy season

As the rainy season looms, residents of the Kazaurawa and Unguwar Ganji communities in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State are raising urgent concerns over the worsening state of their only access road.

The road, which links the area to several neighboring communities, has become severely degraded, sparking fears of isolation, increased hardship, and limited access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets.

Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi Jibrin, Speaker of the Rano Local Government Council, voiced the community’s distress, describing the road as a major obstacle to daily life, especially during the rainy season.

“When it rains, the road becomes nearly impassable. Our people are cut off from hospitals, schools, and markets. Farmers can’t transport their produce, and this threatens their livelihoods,” he said, appealing to both state and federal authorities for immediate intervention.

Community elder, Alhaji Wada Kazaurawa, also underscored the importance of the road, which connects at least seven communities including Rurum, Bakin Fa, Kazaurawa Ghana, Gunduma, Gidan Ganji, Bul, Saya Saya, and extends to Kibiya and Tudun Wada LGAs.

He lamented the abandonment of two critical bridge projects along the route over 14 years ago, a failure that has had dire consequences for residents.

“We’ve lost many lives, especially pregnant women, who couldn’t reach medical help in time due to the bad road,” he said.

The community is now making a desperate appeal for urgent repairs to the road, warning that delays could lead to further tragedies, increased accidents, and deeper socio-economic challenges as the rains intensify.
