Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, says his relationship with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains cordial despite the governor’s recent call for his redeployment.
Governor Yusuf had, during the 65th Independence Day anniversary in Kano, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the Commissioner over his alleged absence and the reported withdrawal of police personnel from the parade.
Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters, CP Bakori said there was no rift between him and the governor, describing their relationship as cooperative and professional.
“All of us are doing our job, and we are still friends and collaborating to ensure the security of lives and property in the state,” he stated.
The Commissioner also announced the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers allegedly behind several violent robberies across Kano, including one incident where the attackers pulled out a woman’s tooth with a diamond tool during an assault.
Bakori said the arrests followed a robbery on October 8, 2025, at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, where gunmen carted away a Toyota Yaris, N3.7 million in cash, and other valuables.
Following investigations, operatives attached to Dorayi Division and the Command’s Special Intervention Squad arrested the suspects in coordinated operations across Kano and Kaduna States.
According to the CP, the suspects confessed to multiple robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano.
Items recovered from them include a double-barrel gun, two pistols, 18 live cartridges, knives, cutlasses, torchlights, and a Toyota Corolla LE used for operations.
Bakori said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations, adding that more exhibits were being recovered.
He attributed the Command’s achievements to its community-based security strategy, Operation Kukan Kura, which he said has led to a sharp drop in crime, including phone snatching, robbery, and thuggery.
“We have seen a geometric reduction in all forms of crime. Mobile phone snatching and robbery are becoming things of the past, while thuggery activities have been largely crippled,” he said.
The CP commended his officers for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum in safeguarding Kano State.
