Kano man sets himself on fire, says he’s going to paradise

A tragic incident has left residents of the Gaida Diga community in Kumbotso, LGA, Kano State, in deep shock and mourning after a young man, identified as Suleiman Muntari, set himself on fire in broad daylight.

Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene, saying Muntari had been wandering aimlessly along the roadside, speaking incoherently and showing signs of emotional and psychological distress.

“He was muttering to himself and seemed completely disconnected from his surroundings,” said Saminu Isah, a witness.

“He told people he wanted to go to paradise, but most of us thought he was just overwhelmed or frustrated.

“No one believed he was serious.”

In a shocking turn of events, Muntari reportedly poured petrol on himself and struck a match before anyone could intervene.

Despite efforts by bystanders to save him, the flames spread too quickly.

Local residents suspect that the young man may have been under the influence of a substance that impaired his mental state.

“There was a strong smell around him, and he was shouting things that didn’t make sense,” said Aisha Salisu, a nearby resident.

“It was clear something was wrong with him mentally.”

As the community reels from the tragic event, local authorities have yet to issue an official statement.

However, the disturbing episode has reignited conversations about the growing mental health crisis among youths, particularly in urban areas.

Community leaders and mental health advocates are calling for urgent intervention, including awareness campaigns and access to support services, to address the silent struggles many young people are facing.
