The Kano State Police Command has arrested 79 suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in a series of operations carried out across the state.
The operations, conducted by police tactical units and several divisional commands, were part of efforts to prevent criminal activities around the 2026 Takutaha celebration and maintain security across the state.
The command said the arrests involved suspects linked to various offences, while the items recovered included dangerous weapons and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The operations were carried out by the Anti-Daba Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Violent Crime Response Unit, alongside personnel from Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli and Gwale police divisions.
According to the command, the operations were based on intelligence gathered ahead of and during the celebration and were supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
The police said the suspects are being investigated and would be prosecuted after the completion of investigations.
The command also disclosed that a separate incident involving a casualty had been reported and was being investigated, without giving further details.
Meanwhile, the police said the Takutaha celebration on September 1 passed peacefully across Kano, attributing the outcome to security measures deployed before and during the event.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons and activities to security agencies.
