Kano: Police arrest four over culpable homicide, attempted murder

The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with two separate cases of alleged culpable homicide and attempted culpable homicide recorded in different parts of the state.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred on July 24 in the Sheka area of Kano, where a 30-year-old man, Abubakar Auwal, was allegedly lured and attacked over accusations that he was having an affair with a married woman.

Police said the victim was allegedly invited by Abubakar Ali, 40, and Sulaiman Lawan, 27, alongside others, before he was brutally assaulted and left unconscious.

Operatives from the Sheka Police Division responded to the report and arrested the two suspects along with a 22-year-old woman, Hafsat Umar, who is the wife at the centre of the allegation.

The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by doctors. His body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

In a separate incident on July 27, police arrested a 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a knife at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano.

The police said the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim after discovering that he intended to marry another woman, severing his genitals during the attack.

Detectives from the Badawa Police Division arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

The victim was taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Commenting on the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned both acts of violence and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

He said the police remain committed to conducting thorough investigations into both cases and assured that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies and report suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines.
