The Kano State Police Command has arrested 107 suspected political thugs and recovered dangerous weapons during Saturday’s rerun and by-elections in the state.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation, which took place around 11:00 a.m. on August 16, was based on credible intelligence and executed in collaboration with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies.
According to reports, 20 vehicles conveying the suspects—allegedly brought in from neighbouring states—were intercepted across the affected local government areas.
Among the items recovered were four locally fabricated rifles, axes, cutlasses, daggers, swords, and sticks.
Sources further disclosed that the elections in some areas were disrupted by violence, ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, and alleged inducement of electorates by government officials.
Security agencies say operations are ongoing to restore calm and safeguard the credibility of the electoral process.
