The Dare Bridge in Kureken Sani, a settlement within the Danshana community of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, has collapsed, leaving thousands of residents stranded and unable to carry out their daily activities.

The bridge, which serves as the only link between the Yanshana communities and Naibawa, had shown signs of deterioration for some time.

It finally gave way after heavy rainfall on Monday night, cutting off access for commuters.

Community members described the incident as both devastating and frightening.

Mallam Mustapha Mustapha, one of the residents, said the collapse has thrown the community into hardship, disrupting the movement of students, patients, traders, civil servants, and others who depend on the route.

“As I speak to you now, we are desperately searching for alternative routes.

“The only available path is long and winding, stretching several kilometers before connecting to a far-off location,” he lamented.

He expressed particular concern for children and women who frequently travel to Naibawa for schooling and medical care, warning that the new situation would impose severe hardship on families.

He also recounted the terrifying sound of rushing water beneath the collapsed structure, describing it as “both alarming and unsettling.”

Although no lives were lost, residents fear for their safety and are mobilising to march to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s residence to demand urgent intervention.

Mustapha urged parents to keep their children away from the collapsed bridge due to the dangers posed by the raging waters.

The communities are now appealing to the Kano State Government for immediate assistance to restore access and prevent further suffering.
