The Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) says it has intercepted information and communication technology (ICT) equipment worth N80 million, allegedly stolen from a secondary school in the state capital.
In a statement on Wednesday, the agency’s Managing Director, Faisal Mahmud, said a patrol team responded swiftly to a distress call from Aisha Shehu Government Junior Secondary School, Kuka, in Fagge Local Government Area, where thieves had broken into the ICT room through the roof.
The suspects, numbering about 10, reportedly overpowered the school’s security guards, tied them up, and carted away solar panels, computers, and other accessories around 2 a.m. But they abandoned the items and fled when KAROTA patrol vehicles arrived at the scene.
Mahmud commended the operatives for their quick intervention and urged residents to work closely with the agency in protecting lives and property.
The school’s principal, Rufa’atu Mahmud, also praised the agency’s vigilance, noting that the equipment was provided under the World Bank-funded AGILE project, which seeks to promote ICT learning for girls in Kano.
