Kano village head found dead in shallow grave after abduction

The village head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata, has been found dead days after he was abducted by suspected bandits.

Ahmad was reportedly kidnapped on the night of September 17, 2026, when armed assailants invaded the community and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to security updates shared on X by security analyst Bakatsine, Ahmad’s body was later discovered in a shallow grave at Danladin Gezawa.

A resident of the community also confirmed the killing, while the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.

The traditional ruler’s funeral prayer was reportedly held at about 3pm on Wednesday.

The abduction was first reported on September 18 after Bakatsine disclosed that armed men had invaded Aujarawar Alkali and abducted the village head during the night raid.

The attackers reportedly operated without resistance before taking Ahmad away, leaving residents worried and prompting calls for intensified efforts to secure his release.

The discovery of his body has now ended hopes of his safe return.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. It is also unknown whether the abductors demanded a ransom or whether any payment was made before his death.

Ahmad’s killing adds to security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where rural communities have continued to face attacks, abductions and other forms of violence.

Traditional rulers often serve as intermediaries between rural residents and government authorities, making attacks against them a major concern for affected communities.

Residents of Aujarawar Alkali are awaiting official statements from the Kano State Government and security agencies on the circumstances surrounding Ahmad’s abduction and death.
