The Kano State Government has warned supporters of Governor Abba Yusuf against making derogatory or inflammatory remarks about Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, cautioning that such behavior would attract disciplinary action.
The warning was issued on Saturday by Bature Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, during a motorcycle distribution event at the Open Space Theatre, Government House.
“To be clear, we will not tolerate indiscipline or insults directed at the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Anyone engaging in such conduct will face consequences,” Tofa said.
He described Kwankwaso as a political leader whose contributions to Kano politics must be respected, regardless of current political developments.
Tofa urged supporters of Governor Yusuf to exercise restraint and maturity, especially in light of heightened political tensions following recent resignations and defections in the state.
He stressed that political differences should not escalate into personal attacks or abusive behavior and reminded party members that respect for leaders and discipline are vital for stability and effective governance.
The caution comes amid reactions to Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a move that also involved several local government chairmen, members of the House of Representatives, and aides.
Earlier, Kwankwaso reaffirmed his commitment to his political ideals, emphasizing that his struggle has always been aimed at the emancipation of ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking to supporters at his Kano residence shortly after the governor’s resignation, he said, “I’m not for sale. Our political convictions keep me grounded. If I were in it for personal gain, I would have taken the easy route.”
He added that the Kwankwasiyya Movement is sustained by shared values rather than material incentives. “Our shared vision is what keeps me going.
“If I were motivated by greed, I would have taken the money and run, and you would not be here showing your support,” Kwankwaso said.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and unity among residents and political supporters in Kano State.
