KAROTA seizes over 4,000 bottles of beer in night operation

Kano authorities have intercepted 4,920 bottles of beer being transported into the state, following a successful operation by the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), which impounded three trucks carrying alcoholic beverages.

The Managing Director of KAROTA, Faisal Mahmud, confirmed the seizure in a statement released on Thursday through the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim.

Mahmud explained that the trucks, carrying 410 cartons and 4,920 bottles of beer, were intercepted during a night patrol along major streets in Kano metropolis.

“The consignments were being transported for delivery to various locations in the city.

“The interception aligns with KAROTA’s mandate to identify and report suspicious movements,” he said.

He added that KAROTA would maintain heightened surveillance to prevent the circulation of intoxicants deemed harmful to public health.

The seized trucks and their contents were handed over to the Kano State Hisbah Board.

Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander-General of the board, commended KAROTA personnel for their vigilance and assured that the items would be destroyed following due process.

Chief Superintendent Sani Nasidi, Head of the Hisbah Intoxicants Unit, emphasized that the board would continue to work closely with KAROTA to prevent the smuggling of prohibited goods into Kano State.
