KASU VC hails Kafanchan campus over ₦1bn TETFund grant

The Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University (KASU), Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, has expressed pride in the university’s Kafanchan campus following its success in securing a ₦1 billion competitive grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Speaking with journalists on Thursday, Prof. Musa said the Kafanchan campus distinguished itself as the only university campus to win the highly competitive grant, attributing the achievement to its strong infrastructure, advanced facilities and a robust agricultural financing plan.

According to him, the grant has further elevated KASU’s standing within academic circles, noting that the award was largely based on the quality of facilities already available at the Kafanchan campus.

The Vice Chancellor acknowledged that, like other tertiary institutions, the campus faces certain challenges but stressed that it would be wrong to describe it as neglected.

Prof. Musa also noted that education received the largest share—25 per cent—of Kaduna State’s proposed ₦985.9 billion 2026 budget, assuring that infrastructure needs across all KASU campuses would be addressed.

He commended Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to education, describing it as a top priority of the administration. “The governor believes that education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and securing the future of our children,” he said.

He recalled that Governor Sani’s first Executive Order reduced tuition fees in all state-owned tertiary institutions by 50 per cent, a move that led to increased enrolment at KASU, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic and the College of Education, Gidan Waya.

Prof. Musa further disclosed that state-owned tertiary institutions in Kaduna have introduced new academic programmes that have successfully passed resource verification by relevant regulatory bodies. He added that several KASU programmes that were previously unaccredited have now received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Vice Chancellor also revealed that KASU recently won the West Africa’s Most Outstanding Institutional Partner for Climate-Smart Agriculture award, further underscoring the university’s growing academic and research profile.
