The Katsina State House of Assembly has urged the state and federal governments to boost security presence in Matazu and Sabuwa Local Government Areas following escalating bandit attacks.
The resolution was reached on Monday during plenary presided over by Speaker Alhaji Nasir Yahaya-Daura, after separate motions by the Chief Whip, Alhaji Ibrahim Dikko (Matazu) and Alhaji Ibrahim Machika (Sabuwa).
Dikko expressed concern over worsening insecurity in Matazu, where recurring bandit raids have left many residents displaced, killed, or unable to farm. He acknowledged government efforts but stressed the need for urgent federal intervention.
Machika, on his part, raised alarm over the withdrawal of security personnel from Sabuwa communities, which he said had left residents vulnerable to frequent deadly attacks, especially in Tashar Bawa and other high-risk areas.
Lawmakers from several constituencies, including Funtua, Dandume, Bakori, Kankia, Jibia, Dutsinma, and Kafur, backed the motions, calling for decisive action.
Following deliberations, the Speaker announced the assembly’s call for security agencies to reinforce troops in the affected areas, investigate the alleged withdrawal of personnel, and strengthen coordination to restore peace.
