Katsina tertiary institutions’ staff call off strike

The Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) of Katsina State Government-owned tertiary institutions has suspended its two-week warning strike, the forum announced on Saturday.

Dr. Muhammad Nasir-Gidado, Chairman of the forum, stated that the strike, which began on January 12, 2026, followed the government’s failure to address several key demands. These included the non-approval and non-implementation of 35 per cent and 25 per cent salary increments for staff, as well as proper placement for Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS 15) non-migrated staff.

The forum also raised concerns over the unsympathetic increase in student registration fees, which it said could reduce enrolment amid the current economic challenges.

Dr. Nasir-Gidado credited the suspension to the intervention of key stakeholders and respected indigenes of the state. He confirmed that negotiations with the government would begin immediately to resolve outstanding issues.

“In view of the above, we call on all our members to resume their primary assignments with the usual dedication and commitment to duty with immediate effect,” he said.

The institutions affected by the strike include Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic; Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-ma; Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Studies, Daura; College of Nursing Sciences (Katsina and Malumfashi campuses); College of Health Science and Technology (Daura and Kankia campuses); and the Institute of Technology and Management.

Dr. Nasir-Gidado also thanked parents and students for their patience and assured them that the forum remains committed to pursuing its demands vigorously.
