Parents of Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu, who was pronounced dead after collapsing on field, have demanded the transfer of his corpse to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 24 hours for confirmation.
The spokesperson for the Katsina State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Nasir Gide, made this known in Katsina on Wednesday.
Gide said the player collapsed before his death was announced by relevant authorities.
Gide explained that following the announcement, Chinedu’s body was deposited at the mortuary pending further arrangements.
He said Chinedu’s parents subsequently requested that the body be transferred to the ICU and kept there for 24 hours.
He said the request was aimed at enabling the family and medical personnel to establish that the footballer had died before any burial arrangements were made.

The ministry spokesperson said the development had caused concern among officials, teammates, coaches, and supporters of Katsina United.
