In response to a series of deadly attacks by armed bandits in Kebbi State, Governor Nasiru Idris has announced plans to amend state laws to introduce the death penalty or life imprisonment for individuals found guilty of aiding criminals as informants.

The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during condolence visits to Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Areas, where recent attacks claimed at least 30 lives.

Describing informants as a major threat to societal peace, Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s firm stance against insecurity and pledged to address the situation decisively.

As part of the government’s security response, he disclosed that a military operational base will be established in the Zuru Emirate.

Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other security equipment have already been deployed to the state from Abuja.

Mourning the victims, the governor prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and speedy recovery for the injured.

“We came here to console you and assure you that steps are already underway to restore peace and prevent further attacks,” he told community members.

Governor Idris also outlined ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state.

These include the procurement of 80 Hilux patrol vehicles for security forces, 1,500 motorcycles for vigilantes, and increased allowances for personnel in volatile areas.

He cautioned against politicising security matters and warned the public to avoid spreading misinformation, especially on social media, as it could undermine current efforts.

Traditional leaders, including the Chief of Danko, Ibrahim Al’aji; the Chief of Dabai, Suleiman Sami; and the Emir of Zuru, retired Major General Sani Sami, commended the governor’s prompt response and urged further action to secure entry routes frequently used by the attackers.
