Kefas approves N500m youth start-up fund in Taraba

Governor Agbu Kefas has approved a N500 million youth start-up fund aimed at boosting entrepreneurship, reducing unemployment, and driving economic growth in Taraba State.

Kefas made the announcement on Friday during a statewide broadcast in Jalingo to mark his third anniversary in office, stating that the initiative would commence in June 2026.

He explained that the programme is part of broader reforms focused on youth inclusion, infrastructure development, and economic expansion.

“Our administration believes the future of Taraba lies in empowering young people,” the governor said.

Kefas disclosed that the government has already established biometric data-capturing centres to build a reliable database for planning youth-focused programmes. According to him, 296 youths have so far registered, with funds approved for starter packs to be rolled out next month.

The governor added that his administration created a Youth Development Agency and a separate Sports Commission to ensure dedicated attention to youth and sports development.

On infrastructure, Kefas revealed that the proposed Ibi Bridge across the River Benue is receiving attention from the Federal Government, while feasibility studies are ongoing for additional bridges along the Chinkai and Karim Lamido corridors to boost connectivity and trade.

He also highlighted ongoing road projects across the state, including the Mararaba-Biassa Abong Road, Takum-Lissam Road, Wukari-Kente-Chinkai Road, and township roads in Jalingo and Wukari.

In the education sector, the governor recalled declaring a state of emergency shortly after assuming office in 2023, noting that steps have since been taken to expand access to free and compulsory basic education and improve learning conditions.

Kefas further stated that his administration has upgraded healthcare facilities and improved service delivery through investments in infrastructure and medical equipment across the state.
