The abductors of 28 travellers from Zak community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State have reduced their ransom demand from ₦42 million to ₦30 million, while also insisting on three brand-new motorcycles.
The victims — men, women and children — were on their way to Sabon Layi in Bashar District for a Maulud celebration when gunmen intercepted their vehicle and took them away.
Initially, the kidnappers reportedly asked for ₦1.5 million per person, but relatives pleaded that they could not afford the amount.
Community members say negotiations have continued, with the abductors now setting a new demand of ₦30 million plus the motorcycles.
Local authorities say efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims.
The chairman of Wase LGA, Hon. Muhammed Hamisu, earlier disclosed that security personnel — including soldiers — had been deployed to search for the abductees.
The Plateau State Police Command also confirmed that detectives are working with intelligence teams to track the perpetrators.
A resident of Zak community, Babawo Gwadabe — whose seven nieces and nephews are among those kidnapped — said the new demands remain overwhelming for families.
He expressed concern and uncertainty about the safety of the victims and appealed for help.
