Kogi Poly suspends seven lecturers over misconduct

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended seven lecturers over allegations of misconduct, including unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, as well as alleged sexual harassment, amid an ongoing investigation into claims of sex-for-marks, cultism and other disciplinary issues.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja.

According to the statement, six lecturers were suspended on July 22, 2026, for allegedly engaging in the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while another lecturer was suspended over allegations of sexual harassment.

The suspensions come amid growing concerns over reported cases of sexual harassment, cult-related activities and other forms of indiscipline within the institution.

Sources within the polytechnic alleged that some lecturers demanded sexual favours or money from female students in exchange for favourable grades, while claiming that cult activities had resurfaced on campus.

One source also alleged that disciplinary measures introduced by the institution’s previous administration had weakened, creating an environment that emboldened misconduct among staff and students.

The source further claimed that some female students who reported sexual harassment received little institutional support and were instead intimidated.

Additional allegations included the resurgence of nocturnal cult meetings on campus, the reintroduction of compulsory handout sales, and the relaxation of rules on dress code and student identity card enforcement, which the source said had contributed to declining discipline.

Responding to the allegations, Onimisi said the institution’s management had already referred the matter to its disciplinary committee for investigation.

He assured that appropriate action would be taken after the committee concludes its findings.

“The school management is aware of the allegations, and the disciplinary committee of the Polytechnic is already investigating them. The outcome will be made available to journalists in due course,” he said.
